Okay, people, we are in the home stretch of the year being over. Don’t ask where has the year gone, because we all know where it has gone, laughs. Today, I want to focus on how to make 2017 the best year yet for you and your business. Outlining four things you need to focus on before trying to walk into the new year with “this is my year” mentality but be defeated by February because you didn’t plan accordingly.
Every year, I create this big goal list that had over 20 actions items. To be honest, I failed miserably because I did not do the things I am about to share with you.
Decompress & Let Go
This year has been a year for the record books, to say the least with everything going on. As a world and individuals we carry so much on us, but not decompressing and letting go. We are moving stuff into the new year again and again. Things we said, we would not do but end up doing them for some odd reason. It’s time to take a chance to decompress from everything that happens to you this year and from the past. I am not saying you will be completely renewed and healed in the morning. I am saying take the time, to be honest with what’s going on in your life so you can move forward. I love taking the time to go to a hotel for at least 48 hours somewhere away from everyone. This is what I do;
- Book hotel in another city
- Take a detox bath
- Juice fast – 24 to 48 hours
- Study my Bible
- Reflect
- Create Plan
- Binge watch Netflix
- Walk around in the open air
Review Where You Went Wrong
Okay, no one is perfect and between you and me; it’s okay to admit this. This year was not the plan I had in mind for my business. Last year, I had the plan on moving to Pearland, Texas and just winning at life, meeting my husband and hosting workshops. That didn’t happen, laughs. Instead, I took the responsibility of taking care of my mother, going from 15 clients a month to 6 clients, digital download sales going down by 90% and more. This was my year in the wilderness, but it was a beautiful year. If I took a breath and decompressed when life started going left my life could’ve got back on track, I didn’t I let the spiral happen. It affected my mental state, my fiscal state and physical.
Review where you went wrong in 2016, to understand the mistakes you don’t want to make in 2017. One thing I am committed to is building a relationship with God and being a good steward over the things he gives me. That truly means spending more time with him even if that means cutting hours in my business. That means sticking to my 60 minutes a week to understand my finances and building wealth.
Create A Real Plan
Now, that you have decompressed and learn what went left this year it’s time to create a real plan. First, let’s be super realistic about what we want to achieve. Next year, go in there with 3-5 goals to achieve. These long list of goals we never achieve kills us. Every year, I have said I wanted to relearn Arabic and French since I left college. It’s okay to drop this goal. I have removed fiscally year goals to sense. My mission to help others on their path of entrepreneurship. I don’t focus on OMG I need to make high six figures. Yes, create a number you want to reach but not something that will hinder you. It’s okay, if you make $35,000 a year, $50,000 a year or $75,000 a year in business revenue. Just do not get caught up in if you do not make some high salary. I am more about helping people, and the by-product is making money that fuels my company and allows me to live comfortable.
I still have measures in places to hit my goals such as; tiered pricing, digital downloads, marketing, and service. I am not passive aggressive. I’m focused on mission first.
Get Aligned
This is going to be the biggest thing for you! You must truly get aligned on what you want to do and how you want to do. You must know that this dream or passion is possible. Stop the negative speak, remove toxic people and believe. If it means setting affirmation as alarms, getting a life coach, getting accountable and more do it! Write the vision and make it clear. Stand on it with no matter what happens in life you will power through it. Be so aligned with your future that when you look up from your blinders every so often you will realize you’re hitting those goals. Taking bold actions and removing the limits truly allows me to be aligned in what I want to achieve each day, week, month and year.
Next month, literally the first two post of the year cover even more how you can make 2017 the best year yet for you and your business. I will outline creating an action in your business that sustains throughout the year. In addition to that, I am describing some things you need to do no matter what.
