First, let me state that I really wish I could provide some amazing title that makes everyone click, but at last, I just couldn’t do the “five books every woman business owner should read” click bait title. Mainly because everyone is not everyone’s cup of tea. I have bought those books everyone said I had to read as a female business owner and several I could not get past the first chapter. Spending $15-$30 per book that I would constantly giveaway. Instead, I wanted to share a couple inspirational books in my eyes that have helped me in a hard season of life.
If you’re a lover of books, you know how important the author’s voice is and why it matters to you as a reader. There was a time where I read over 50 books a year, but that has drastically changed. I am now in a place in my life where the information I take in I really want to marinate and have an impact on my life from the way I personally live to how it impacts my business model. Here is a list of all the books, I have read thus far in 2017 and honestly each one sparked something in me.
If you follow me on social media, you know I am team Jo and Chip of Fixer Upper. Their HQ is 45 minutes away from me in the Waco area. Prior to them launching their book, I was so inspired to see someone from a small town be used by God. They operate in their gift of designing, creating, and inspiring others through their multiple companies. Anytime, I can make it to Magnolia to hang for the day I do. The book is written by Joanna & Chip, and if you’re a follower of their business you can truly hear their voice. I don’t want to give anything away, but if you are needing the inspiration and wanting to see how God can move on your behalf time and time again, this book is it.
Starbucks Saved My Life
Everyone jokes about how much I must love Starbucks because I am there every day. To be honest, like I stated above I live in a small town and my only option for the coffee shop is Starbucks. Yes, I love coming in and connecting with the customers and staff, but it’s my only option, lol. Anyways when I stumbled across this book at Half Price Book Store in Austin for $2 I had to buy it. I really wanted to see what it was about. Another great book showcasing how your life can change in a heartbeat, and how what might look bad can turn into something great.
Taking back what the enemy has stolen from you perfectly describes this book. Christine invites all of her readers into her inner struggles from childhood to adulthood. Sharing her past traumas and hangups to show us how God can not only heal us, but He can also restore us for the greater good. This was the first book I read at the start of the year, and couldn’t put it down.
Can I say this book was truly refreshing to read for the simple fact we have become a society that glorifies fake busy over being present in the moment? Early this year, Jessica of No Real Jewelry shared it on Instagram and I knew immediately that I needed to pick it up. She has the virtually the same taste in books so I knew I needed to read it. This book has helped me give myself permission to not post on social media and live my best life without worrying about the photos, captions, shares and more. Yes, I want every business owner to truly win when it comes to running their business, but I want us to live too.
Have you ever felt rejected in life? Well, I personally have and the moments in life and we carry them for a long time. Especially as women, we will remember when we were five years old and someone rejected our love by simply being busy in the moment, but at that age, we don’t understand adulthood at all. We continuously carry this and it plants the seed of fear in our spirits. This book was an amazing read for those wanting to lose what has been placed on our lives.
These are just some of the books I have read this year and I feel they are perfect reads no matter where you are in life.
