What’s In Your Bag: Elle & Company Design

1. Wallet  2. Sharpie pens  3. Extra gum  4. Hand lotion  5. EOS lip balm  6. Business cards  7. Knockarounds  8. iPhone  9. iPhone earbuds

What’s your biggest accomplishment?

Starting my business, Elle & Company. So much prayer and thought went into every detail, and my heart is all over each product, blog post, and design. It’s been frightening, exhilarating, and oh-so rewarding all at the same time.

What are three books you would recommend to our readers?

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers is a book that I could (and have) read time and time again. Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore is one of those books that makes you laugh and cry, and it stirs up a love for other people and a desire to do good. And I’m convinced that you can’t finish Crazy Love by Francis Chan and walk away the same person.

What’s your advice to someone interested in starting their own business?

Don’t rush and ask for help! Once the ideas get flowing and my gears start to turn, I have a tendency to get excited and jump the gun. Taking time to think through decisions and ask for others’ advice has been extremely beneficial. It’s helped me troubleshoot problems ahead of time and consider ideas that I may not have thought about otherwise.

Where do you receive inspiration?

My morning quiet time, coffee dates with friends, and Scripture. I’ve noticed that I’m hardly creative when I’m stressed, but when I slow down and step back, there is inspiration all around me.

What's In Your Bag: Lauren Francesca's Boston CrossbodyIf you could have one famous entrepreneur as your mentor who would it be?

Lara Casey has always been one of my role models. I’m certain that her success has come from her character and her heart, and her positivity and joy are contagious. I get excited when her newsletters pop up in my inbox and her photos appear on my Instagram feed because I’m always encouraged. She works hard, she’s a smart businesswoman, and she loves well. And goodness, who wouldn’t strive to be like that?

Do you feel your life is balanced between work life and personal life? What is your favorite thing about running your own business?

Because I put so much of myself into my business, it’s difficult to strike that perfect balance between my work life and my personal life. Having your own business is like having another child – it’s around the clock, 24/7. Setting and adhering to office hours and staying away from social media has been so helpful lately.

And my favorite thing about running my own business is having the opportunity to impact other people. At the end of the day, my hope is that ladies leave my site encouraged, whether it’s through a pretty Daybook Planner or a helpful blog post. I’m thankful each and every day that I get to call this passion my “job”.
