Business Books on Goodreads

Here at IC, we’re obsessed with books! We feel that instead of “stopping” the learning after college, you should constantly be updating and researching business. It’s not easy to make time to read, but it could be the most important and influential move for your business. So, we are going to introduce a website that could help you, and it’s called Goodreads. We hope you love it too.

Basically, Goodreads is a social media site for books. Create an account and invite or add your friends to view the books you’ve read and want to read. Also, people can recommend books to you. You can also play trivia games with them to check up on what you remember.

My favorite feature is Listopia. People use Listopia to assemble related books. It’s a Pinterest-esque system that shows many different options if you like a particular genre or if you want to find books that related to ones you’ve already read. Also, it’s a great way to meet people. If someone makes a list of business books that matches your business philosophy, chat with them. It could be the window of opportunity you never thought you would find.

Another amazing feature is that you can keep track of which books you own. What I like about this is that people often don’t return the books I let them borrow. With this website, you wont forget that you lent it to them! I find a little solace that all my beautiful books will remain my own, not destined to get lost in the bottom of someone’s closet.

You can set goals on this site. I have a goal to read 200 books this year. It ticks away at the books I’ve read and will send me a congratulatory email when I have accomplished it. When you read a book, you can watch yourself reach your goals.

The rating feature for books is great for business owners. Time is money, and instead of waisting your time reading something that might not be what you’re looking for, you can read the comments or look at how many stars the book has. However, I would caution you to take the comments with a grain of salt. Some people list their favorite book as Twilight and then comment on Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich that it’s boring and hard to read.

What do you think of Goodreads? How has it helped your business? Leave some love!
