What’s your biggest accomplishment? Launching Jem of the South has been my biggest accomplishment. Before starting my dessert media company, I was only going through the motions in everything I did. After starting Jem, my creativity was unleashed and I’ve stepped so far out of the my comfort zone. I wouldn’t dare turn back!

What are three books you would recommend to our readers? I used to be an avid reader, but will have to admit my reading list now consists more of blogs. One book that I will suggest is the “The Big Enough Company” by Adelaide Lancaster and Amy Abrams.

What’s the biggest lesson you have learned since launching? Too many voices dictating what you should be doing will either derail your dreams or delay them. Therefore, limit your advisors to a small circle of trusted people who really know your goals and truly listen to you and your vision. Ultimately, advice is great, but it’s your vision and you are the one who really sees where you want to go with it. So take advice, but don’t let the advice get you off course. What’s your advice to someone interested in starting their own business? Be patient, don’t compare and don’t give up!

Where do you receive inspiration? I’m inspired by my brother who has been in business since he was in college. He is an awesome designer and photographer and has given me invaluable advice. I’m also inspired by bakers, dessert table designers and others who dream and do.

If you could have one famous entrepreneur as your mentor who would it be? Martha Stewart. She is THE domestic diva!

Do you feel your life is balanced between work life and your personal life? I’m working on gaining more balance. I’ve found the “sleep when you die mantra” doesn’t work for me. If I don’t turn things off at some point, my productivity suffers. I’m doing my best to focus more on self-care and generally having more fun!
