What’s your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment is one that deals with my personal development. I used be addicted to making sure that every person that “wronged” me was aware of the fact that I KNEW what they were doing. I didn’t realize how much TIME that was taking up and how much unnecessary energy I was expending on such things. I have learned to let many things GO. I don’t feel like anyone is “getting over on me” because I don’t address every single issue. Everything is not such a big deal. That’s my biggest accomplishment to date.
What are three books you would recommend to our readers?
I have always felt like everyone should have a copy of “The 48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene. The truth is that you just can’t go wrong with anything by Greene on your bookshelf. I also keep a copy of “The Mastery of Love” by don Miguel Ruiz handy. I have given out more copies of that book to friends than any other book. Another book that I’m obsessed with at the moment is “Tiny Beautiful Things” by Cheryl Strayed. I feel like every woman should sit with this book on the beach and just think about some things.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned since launching?
Hmmmmm … I had to learn a lesson in emotional management. That probably takes us back to my biggest accomplishment. *lol* It’s very hard to start something and then emotionally get ripped to shreds. I was listening to Lost+ by Coldplay & Jay-Z earlier today and Jay says it correctly: “With the same sword they knight you, they gon’ good night you” and “If you succeed, prepare to be crucified.” This certainly isn’t a woe is me moment but it’s very real. You can never be prepared for the emotional hurricane that comes with success. I honestly believe it’s why so many celebrities spiral. It’s not as easy as it appears.

What’s your advice to someone interested in starting their own business?
Be prepared to sacrifice all of your day to day comforts in order to get what you want. You’re going to have to miss out on a lot of things (at first), you’re going to miss some good friend’s weddings (because you won’t be able to afford it), you will have to skip the HBO and the fancy wines, and many other things. Just know that it’s SO short lived (even if it’s a 5+ year process). I always say that it takes AT LEAST 3 years from the time you start something before you’re really going to see any results. So if you haven’t hit your 3-year mark, don’t even THINK about giving up!

Where do you receive inspiration?
I’m always inspired by the story of the underdog. I love meeting people and I’m usually inspired by the everyday story. I wake up each morning determined to have a positive day–regardless of what happened the day before or what’s on my calendar for the next day. Each day I’m committed to starting the day on the right foot.

If you could have one famous entrepreneur as your mentor who would it be?
I love Oprah and Jay-Z. I’m a HUGE fan of those two.

Do you feel your life is balanced between work + personal?
Eh. As much I as it can be. There are some times during the year when the pendulum is swinging waaayyyyy on the work side and then there are times when I spend lots of time doing personal things. It’s never going to be 100% balanced. When I have spent too much time working, I go and have fun and I just let the fun carry on until I’m all burned out and ready to go work again.

What is your favorite thing about running your own business?
I love being able to put things out exactly as I want to. I can inspire and encourage people without having to run it up the chain of command first.
